  • "Even These May Forget"--Mother's Day 2006 Isa. 49.15

Is a Mother a mother because of what she does or who she is? We mark this day every year, the second Sunday in May to honor our mothers. It seems like we honor them for what they have done and continue to do rather than who they are. To my own mother and the most significant mother in my life, my wife Mica, I would like to honor you on this day for who you are, not just for what you have done.

Consider the love a mother has for her child. On earth do we know any any purer love? I have seen it first hand and my children have experienced it and I can assure you that such a love is as pure as it gets. Or is it? Oh I think overall, you will have problems finding tangible hands on love as pure as a mother for her children, but consider this from God's word in Isa. 49.15:

"Can a woman forget her nursing child,
that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb?
    Even these may forget,
yet I will not forget you."

Indeed a mother's love is pure, but even this that is so sacred can fail and forget. Tragically we see it all the time. Yet God is telling us that even if that love which we hold as most sacred fails or forgets, HE WILL NOT.

To my mom and Mica. You have not loved perfectly, but no one has. Thank you for displaying a love so pure that we can now taste the Perfect Love from the Father. Though we cherish what you have done, we celebrate who you are. Happy Mother's Day Mica and Mom. I love you.

    Consider this.

What do you think? Who won this fight? Wouldn't you be amazed if I told you that the little guy won? I know I would be amazed, but the truth of the matter is that he did not win...actually the Russian Giant killed this man 45 seconds after this picture was taken.

(Too bad there wasn't a way to let that sink in.) Truthfully though, the lilttle guy is still alive, but he did lose the fight, but what a day? And you thought you had it tough! How would you like to wake up one morning and be told, "Ah...we've got a little job for you to do today..."

Now it reminds me of something Pastor Mike shared with me a long time ago. "What if you were told to get in the ring to fight some giant like this, but God told you, that you could not lose or be hurt, how would you go about fighting this fight?"

Good question. But before you answer check out David's answer in 1 SAM 17.34,
"Your servant has been keeping his father's sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth.

When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine."

Seems to me that the Scriptures are describing a boy who can't wait to jump in the ring an unleash a furious can of Holy Fire, "whoop-a**" on some poor trash talking Philistine Giant named Goliath.

Carpe Diem. It is there for the plucking.

You know he'll dive into the stands, almost get his hand broken by a 95 mph fastball and never show any emotion, but when A-rod twists his ear... It just goes to show. Baseball is a boys game that men get paid millions of dollars to play.
